Our caterpillars have arrived and we will be following their transformation into butterflies, at which time, we will release them into the playground. We are continuing our Bug Unit. 4 year old class:
May is a busy and exciting month for the 4’s. The children are working hard making gifts and practicing songs, for Mom’s special Mother’s Day Celebration. Our caterpillars have arrived! The class is learning about the “Life Cycle of a Butterfly”. Each child will become a scientist observing the caterpillars and recording their findings on an observation form. Our “scientists” will continue this procedure throughout the amazing metamorphosis of caterpillar to butterfly. This unit includes the study of insects, culminating with the children’s own bug creations. The 4’s will study the parts of a plant: growing and observing bush beans, from seed to plant. The children will make a booklet documenting the growth and change that takes place, as the bean becomes a plant. Mathematics is reinforced as the class measures the growth process. Journal entries continue weekly, reinforcing literacy and math skills.
