September Class News

9/26/2012

2 year old class:
September is all about getting to know the 2's classroom, the teachers and each other! We have a shorter class this month to help the adjustment to school. We are all looking forward to a great year!

3 year old class:
Welcome to the 3's!! Miss Judy, Miss Anna Lisa and Miss Mary are busy introducing the  children to the contents and routines of the 3's. Each year we begin our first day as a whole class with a book entitled The Kissing Hand which helps ease the children into the new school year. This is why we ask the parents to send in a hand print, a family picture and an encouraging note the first day of school. The children will make placemats that they will use at snack time for the entire school year. The theme for September will be Apples. During the month, we will be going on the Apple Picking trip and we will use the apples in the classroom for crafts, baking, eating etc.

4 year old class:
The 4’s had a great start to the new school year beginning their discussions about friendship and school rules. The day always begins with table-top activities including play dough and alternating activities such as puzzles, lacing, Legos, games, etc.  September is packed with firsts. The 4’s pour their own drinks and clean up after they are finished. Journal writing begins and their first entry is drawing their favorite part of school and then explaining their drawing to the teacher. The children will make self portraits and learn about “Me” with a poem and discussion.  Apples are a fun theme that is highlighted with a trip to the apple orchard. Apple tasting and graphing the results is a hands on learning experience. The children will discuss and document their observations, make crafts, and cook with apples. Shapes and colors are incorporated into the topic.  The children will create a Fall tee shirt using real leaves as their stencil.
